Self striping sock yarn club – September parcel

Our September club parcel had an autumnal theme. We used our lovely Brecon Sock for this one, a blend of 70% Superwash Merino, 20% Yak, 10% nylon. The Yak gives the base yarn a heathery grey undertone, perfect for creating autumnal shades. We tried something different this time by combining 2 solid stripes with a variegated stripe. I really like how my sample sock turned out and I think we’ll be trying more of this style.

Our gift for this parcel was 2 Hot Chocolate Coins from Pip’s Real Hot Chocolate Company. Obviously we had to test these first and we think they are lovely!

Sock club is full at the moment. Do sign up for our newsletter if you want to know as soon as more spaces become available.

Fernham Shawl

My new Tunisian crochet pattern, ‘Fernham’, uses 2 skeins of our Sarum Sport 100% Superwash Merino. Worked sideways, I used a combination of increases, decreases and short rows to create the shape. The main body is worked in a honeycomb pattern which produces a gorgeous texture. The border is worked at the same time as the body.

The pattern includes full written instructions as well as charts. I recommend having some Tunisian crochet experience – please contact me if you have any questions.

The pattern is £3.50 OR free if you purchase 2 skeins of our Sarum Sport. Please enter ‘Fernham’ in the ‘order notes’ section at checkout and we will send you a download link.

Yarndale@Home

Yarndale

Today we should have been packing up the van with lots of yarny goodies ready to drive up to Skipton tomorrow and set up our stand for Yarndale. Instead we have been dyeing yarn (which will hopefully be dry by Saturday so I can photograph it!) and later this evening we’ll be celebrating Andrew’s birthday with Whisky and cake 😉

Yarndale have put together a great programme of talks and other online events for this weekend so you can still take part from home.

Matt (from A Boy & Bunting) is hosting a series of interviews over the weekend – you do need to get tickets for these in advance so make sure you check them out and book up in time. You can find all the details here. All proceeds from ticket sales are going to Yarndale’s chosen charity.

There will also be demos and Instagram Live sessions with some exhibitors over the weekend.

And of course – lots of lovely exhibitors! You can find the exhibitors list here.

We will be updating our shop in time for Yarndale opening at 10am on Saturday and will be online over the weekend if you have any questions. You can find us on Instagram and Facebook, or you can contact us here.

I took this photograph last year on the Friday evening and I really wish we could all be there this weekend – we had a great time!

I know it’s still August but…

Our Christmas Special is in production! Much more ‘twinkly’ than it looks in the photograph, this is ‘Twinkling Lights’ 🙂 on Merino/nylon/gold sparkle and the dyeing is a joint effort too, with me in charge of the ‘twinkly lights’ stripe and Andrew taking care of the rest (he usually does alllll the dyeing!)

We will also have co-ordinating mini cakes available, in red or green (but no photos yet as Andrew has only started dyeing those today).

If you are in the U.K you can now pre-order 🙂 Sold out!

Pre-orders are now sold out! Sign up for our newsletter if you’d like to know when we have more stock available.

Self-striping sock yarn club – July parcel

The colour inspiration for the July parcels was our favourite summer treat – ice cream! I decided to make everyone a set of 3 stitch markers to match the colours and I also painted the image used for the stickers.

The yarn base for July was Bicton Sock, 100% superwash High Twist Bluefaced Leicester

Parcels included the main cake & a contrasting mini, a set of 3 handmade stitchmarkers, Eucalan sachet and a discount voucher for our Etsy shop.

Self-striping sock yarn club – May

Self striping sock yarn in shades of pale aqua, orange and pink

The colour inspiration for the May parcels was based on the Summer Solstice. Andrew had some colours in mind and then we discovered some lovely soap made by Ruth of Haywood Botanicals and decided they would make the perfect extra gift and colour inspiration!

The yarn base for May was Sherborne Sock, 75% superwash Merino, 25% nylon.

Parcels included the main cake & a contrasting mini, Midsummer Eve handmade soap bar, Eucalan sachet and a discount voucher for our Etsy shop.

Self-striping sock yarn club – March parcel

Our first club parcels were sent out last week. As it’s not long until Easter, we decided to use Cadbury’s creme egg as the colour inspiration (I think Andrew just wanted an excuse to eat some for ‘research’ purposes!)

Parcels included the main cake & a contrasting mini, a pack of Creme eggs (of course!), handwarmer pattern, a cute little sachet of Eucalan and a discount voucher for our Etsy shop.

The next parcels will be sent out in the last week of May. For more information and to sign up, please click here.

Waltham Abbey Wool Show 2020

We had a lovely day at Waltham Abbey Wool show last Sunday – slightly more relaxing than last year as we decided to stay nearby the night before rather then getting up mega early to drive there on the day. That was a good choice!

Andrew dyed up a special ‘WAWS2020’ colourway (we do have a few of these left – I’ll be listing them over on our Etsy shop very soon).

We had a lot of interest in my Tunisian crochet samples and I spent quite a bit of time demonstrating the basics which is always fun. You can see my ‘Amplitude shawl’ in the photo below. The pattern is available to buy via Ravelry

Our next show is Unravel which starts on Friday 21st February and runs for 3 days. We will be launching our new DK weight self-striping yarn at the show and we are also dyeing a special colourway for the show (on our 4ply ‘Chepstow Sock’ base).

Self-striping sock yarn club coming soon!

On February 1st we are opening sign-ups for our new self-striping sock yarn club – you can find all the details here.

Don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter if you want to keep in touch!

Yarndale

Wow – how can it be 3 weeks since we were setting up for our first Yarndale! We arrived on Friday afternoon after a fairly long drive and spent a few hours getting our stand set up. We do try and have some sort of plan before we arrive but usually there are a few things that need tweaking, especially for a new show. We were on a corner and had some lovely crochet bunting on the end of our stand ‘wall’ 🙂

Apologies for the terrible image quality – I only had my phone with me and it was quite dark when I took these :-/

I’m still trying to work out how to display samples nicely – I’ve got a couple of ideas to try out but they involve making things and we haven’t had time to have a go yet! We are pretty much at full capacity in terms of what we can fit in the van (mostly because my van is a small campervan, so we have to pack around the bed and other bits!) so we need to get creative if we want to make any changes.

Our self-striping yarn taking centre stage! We dyed up a Halloween colourway – which sold out (and I don’t even have one for myself!) and Andrew also came up with a new cycling-themed colourway, ‘Peloton’ 🙂

I had 2 lovely groups for my Tunisian crochet workshops – I taught a Tunisian Intarsia workshop and a Beginner’s workshop and my lovely friend helped Andrew out on the stand while I was teaching.

We really enjoyed the show and hope to return next year. The dates for next year’s show are up already so you can put them in your diary! September 26th & 27th 2020.
